William "Sam" S. Ballard

William S. “Sam” Ballard, age 75 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away at 10:12 am on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 9 am on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at the Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home with Rev. Russell Gilbert officiating. Entombment will follow at the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

Sam was retired from Star Construction and was of the Catholic Faith.

Sam is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janet Ballard; sons, Samuel David Ballard (Kathy) and Kevin Dewayne Ballard; granddaughter, Autumn Nicole Ballard; great grandson, William James Futrell; ½ sister, Frances; step sisters, June and Margie; brother, Leon; several nieces and nephews.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Earl and Odell (Marshall) Ballard and 2 sisters.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 from 8:30 am to 9:00 am at the Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made in Sam’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.

Pallbearers will be Junior Anderson, Dennis Bradford, Russell Gilbert, Nicholas Anderson, and John Griffin.
