Wiley Godfrey, age 77 of Metropolis, Illinois formerly of Eastern, North Carolina met his Lord and Savior face to face on Saturday evening at his residence.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at Round Springs Cemetery with Dr. Joe Buchanan officiating. There will be no visitation. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.
Wiley was a retired minister, serving the following churches: Gumneck Christian Church in Columbia, NC, Pleasant Plains Church of Christ in Pleasant Plains, IL, Sixth Avenue Church of Christ in Huntington, WV, Stoney Brook Church of Christ in Wilson, NC, Elizabeth City Church of Christ in Elizabeth City, NC, Community Christian Church in Metropolis, IL, and Pulaski Christian Church of Pulaski, IL. He currently attended First Baptist Church in Metropolis and was an Air Force veteran serving during the Vietnam conflict.
Wiley is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret Godfrey; daughter, Karen Bremer and husband Daniel; son, Kelly Godfrey and friend Cindy; grandchildren, Mason (Cati) Bremer, Courtney (Dalton) Bremer, Irial Godfrey, and Dakota Godfrey; one sister, Stella Smith; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Margaret (Woolard) Godfrey; sister, Mary Bundy Morella; and brother, Charles Godfrey.
Memorial contributions may be given in Wiley’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or a charity of your choice.
