Wilburn was a member of First Methodist Church in Metropolis and an United States Army veteran. He worked at the Good Luck Glove Factory as a plant manager until its closing. Then, being the avid craftsman that he was, Wilburn owned a woodworking business until he retired. His years at the glove factory gave him the skills to enjoy the hobby of making quilts with his wife. He would cut and sew the pieces as Genevieve quilted them.
Wilburn is survived by his daughters, Cathy Childers (Paul) and Sandy Trail; grandchildren, Andrew Childers, Sarah Childers, Chad Trail, and Jacqueline Harang; great granddaughter, Anissa Trail; and several nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Charles and Minnie (King) May; wife of 69 years, Genevieve (Sullivan) May; and siblings, Frank May, Ed May, Dick May, Wesley May, Mary Wemhoener, and Lindell May.
Memorial contributions may be given in Wilburn’s name to First Methodist Church, 100 E. 5th Street, Metropolis, IL 62960.
