Wayne N. Bunting

Wayne N. Bunting, age 74 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away at 12:30 am on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Zion Evangelical Church with Pastor Tom Emmerson officiating. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens with military rites.

Wayne was retired from Lock and Dam 52, a member of Zion Evangelical Church, and served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War, where he received a purple heart.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 49 ½ years, Shirley Konemann Bunting; daughter, Krystle Conley (Michael Meyer); son, Billie Ray Bunting (Jenifer); grandchildren, Mikayla Reece Bunting Lang, Cheyenne Rose Bunting Lang, Devon Wayne Conley, Mason Reed Conley, Timothy Gage Conley, Emilynn Elise Bunting; sisters, Treasa Bunting, Jeannie Crosby (Tommy); brothers, Thomas Bunting (Martha), John Bunting (Carla); sister-in-law, Brenda Bunting; several nieces, nephews, uncles, and cousins.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Billie Wayne and Betty Jean (Ashby) Bunting; son, Tim “Bubba” Bunting; brother, Philip Bunting.

Visitation will be held on Thursday evening September 21, 2023 from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home and on Friday from 11 am to 1 pm at the church.

Memorials may be made in Wayne’s name to Zion Evangelical Church, 1132 Country Club Road, Metropolis, Illinois 62960.

Pallbearers will be Terry Bunting, Bob Konemann, Chad Shreves, John Konemann, Bryan Bunting, and Will Bunting.
