Val Gene Sichling, age 86 of Metropolis fell asleep in death July 31 at his home.
Val was bon February 14, 1936 near Dongola to Monroe and Virgie (Penrod) Sichling who preceded him in death.
Val will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Joann (Windhorst) Sichling.
Val was next to the oldest of 6 children. He is survived by his sister Carlene Isom of Cape Girardeau, MO and sister, Gail Scammahorn (Robert) of San Antonio, TX. Also, several nieces and nephews and many friends who were like family.
Val was preceded in death by 3 siblings, Norma Steward, Sharon Grothman, and Terry Sichling.
Val was a carpenter for many years in the local area, working alongside his brother-in-law, Lavern Grothman. Together they built many new homes and completed many remodeling projects.
Val was baptized in 1962 as one of Johovah’s Witnesses and was actively associated with the Metropolis congregation ever since.
There will be an in person Memorial program at the Metropolis Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 3210 Massac Creek Road. The Memorial program will also be on zoom for those unable to attend in person. The Memorial program will start at 3 pm on Saturday, August 27, 2022. Wearing a mask is encouraged.
