Rachel Ann Carnes, 43 of Metropolis, IL, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024 at her home. She was born on March 24th, 1981 to Earnest Carnes and Linda Harris Carnes.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at Joppa IOOF Cemetery with Bro. Justin Wolfe officiating.
Rachel is survived by her father, Earnest and step-mother, Vickie; one sister, Adreanne Carnes (Bryan); three brothers, Earnest Carnes (Rhonda), James Carnes (Angela), Mike Carnes (Connie) all of Metropolis; one aunt, Johnnie DeMarco (Vincent) of Joppa; special friend, Lisa Burnett; her furbabies, Winston and Totcho; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Linda Harris Blankenship; grandparents, Jack and Evelyn Harris and Earnest “Snooks” and Myrtle Carnes; three sisters, Terri Zervas and infant twins, Natalie and Nicole Carnes; three brothers, Michael Zervas, Jeff Carnes, and infant, Justin Hardy Carnes; aunts, Terry Roman, Jackie Caccioppo, Pauline Carnes, Freda Carnes, Margrete Heflin, Roberta Fletcher and Marie Carnes; uncles, Freddy Carnes, Kenny Carnes, and Jack Heflin; nephew, Matthew Zervas; cousins, Phillip DeMarco, Robert Caccioppo, Freddy Carnes, Jr., Denny Carnes, Alan Benton and Steve Benton.
Rachel loved art, tattoos and her constant companions, Winston and Totcho. She was an advocate for medical marijuana programs and was a huge proponent to women on early detection of breast cancer. She enjoyed making Tik Toks where she spoke about it, along with offering support to others that were battling cancer. Rachel was very involved with several online cancer support groups and was constantly encouraging and cheering on those going through treatment that she met through these forums.
