Naomi L. Verbarg, 85, of Metropolis, Illinois went home to her eternal rest at 6:20 pm on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at the Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis, Illinois. Rev. Tom Emmerson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Round Springs Cemetery in Massac County, Illinois.
Born in 1931 in Bristow, OK, Naomi was one of 13 children born to John L. Simpson and LaVada Horn. Naomi was a member of World Harvest Church in Paducah, KY. She was a faithful Christian who enjoyed reading, especially her Bible; loved being outdoors and walking; watching and feeding the birds in her backyard; was an avid fan of golf tournaments; and loved visiting with family and friends.
Naomi is survived by a son, Dale Hemphill and wife Sherry of Marion, IL; step son, Herold "Gene" Hemphill and wife Ida and family of Acworth, GA; two daughters, Lena (Verbarg) Ashley and Carolyn (Hemphill) Konemann and husband Ronald, both of Metropolis, IL; step daughter, Sharon Hacker and family of Pekin, IL; sister, Georgia Marchini; brother-in-law, Nelson "Sonny" McVay Jr.; sisters-in-law, Jean Simpson and Connie Simpson; 4 grandchildren, Jennifer (Konemann) Gray, Janet Konemann, Joshua Hemphill, and Caleb Ashley; 6 great grandchildren, Chastin Konemann, Jalyn Rush, Cheyenne Hemphill, Autumn Hemphill, Kaylyn Hemphill, and Hunter Hemphill; numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Naomi was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Elton Lee Roy Hemphill and Wilbert Verbarg; her brothers, Earl Simpson (Minnie), Earnest Simpson, Elven Simpson (Marie), John Simpson (Dorothy), Kenneth Eugene Simpson, Loyd Ray Simpson (Ruby), Odis S. Simpson (Barbara), Arlie "Bud" Simpson, and Lorn Wayne Simpson; her sisters, Verdie Estep (Gene "Skinny") and Cloetta Sue McVay.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2016 from 11 am to 1 pm at the Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis.
Pallbearers will be Ronald Konemann, Dale Hemphill, Caleb Ashley, Joshua Hemphill, Lon Hemphill, and Wyatte Weaver.
