Mary Lou Loverkamp Obituary

Mary Lou Loverkamp had her long awaited dance with Jesus on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. She was born to Millage and Verna (Hinners) Kruger on January 22, 1938.

There are so many words to describe Mary Lou, but the most important ones and the ones that stick out the most are God-fearing. She is singing and praising with the angels today, a celebration she has been striving for all her life. She was a true prayer warrior and those that knew her, knew when she would tell you that she would be praying for you, you were going to have a direct line to Heaven. She loved her Jesus, and it was evident in everything she said and did. She had that worn story-telling Bible in her lap and you could not stop her. She would hold your hand and that prayer ran off her lips as smooth as ever.

On June 9, 1956, Mary Lou transitioned from a city girl into a farm wife, when she married Lowell Loverkamp. She became a member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church the day she married Lowell. Two children were born into this union. Mary Lou was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother up until her Jesus called her home.

Mary Lou was a school bus driver for B & S Bus Service in Metropolis, Illinois for at least 15 years. After she had been driving the bus for several years, Mary Lou decided to go back to school to become a medical transcriptionist. After earning her degree, she went to work for Western Baptist and Massac Memorial until her retirement.

Mary Lou is survived by her son, Lynn (Robin) Loverkamp; her daughter, Marlene (Frankie) Clapp; 7 grandchildren, Levi (Julia) Loverkamp, Tabitha (John Mark) DeVous, Trisha Stacey, Lindsay (Justin) Tate, Summer (Mason) Dixon, Logan (Joslyn) Loverkamp, and Sydney Loverkamp (Jason); 8 great-grandchildren, Blake, Austin, Noah (Sofia), Abby, Bailey, Kannadie, Harper and Lowell; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Loverkamp; her parents, Millage and Verna (Hinners) Kruger; her father and mother-in-law, Lester and Caroline (Maedaker) Loverkamp; her step-mother-in-law, Lydia Loverkamp; her sister and one brother-in-law, Barb (Jerry) Giltner; her sister-in-law and one brother-in-law, Erlene (Loverkamp) Kruger and Orval.

A private graveside will be held at a later date.
