Mary Ann Greer

Mary Ann Greer, age 74 of rural Grantsburg, Illinois passed away at 9:30 pm on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at her son’s residence surrounded by her loving family. Mary Ann was born on May 6, 1949 in Belknap, Illinois to her proud parents, James Wesley and Vera (Story) Greer.

Mary Ann was a loving mother and grandmother, who could always be found on her farm tending to her animals that she dearly loved. She had previously worked at the Good Luck Glove Factory in Vienna and retired as a Security Officer with Choate Mental Health. She was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, the Johnson County Rails and Trails Saddle Club, and had attended the Nine Day Trail Ride for over 40 years.

Mary Ann is survived by her son, J.D. Mathis and wife Tammy; grandchildren, Cody Mathis and Jessie Mathis; brothers, Larry Greer and Roger Greer; sister-in-law, Peggy Greer; several nieces and nephews.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, James Mitchell “Jimmy” Greer.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 6, 2023 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at the Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home in Metropolis. Funeral services will follow at 2 pm with Pastor Justin Wolfe officiating. Burial will follow in the Belknap Masonic Cemetery in Belknap, Illinois.

Pallbearers will be J.D. Mathis, Jessie Mathis, Cody Mathis, Scott Darnell, Mitch Story, and Tim Oliver.
