Marilyn Sue (Lampley) Reed

Marilyn Sue Lampley Reed, 63 of Cave-in-Rock, IL, departed this life in Metropolis, IL, on Friday, September 27, 2024.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 in Otterbien Cemetery in New Liberty, Pope County, IL, with Jeff Bremer officiating. A family and friends gathering will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. in the cemetery.

Marilyn was born in Hamilton County, IL on September 22, 1961. She was the daughter of Thomas Jefferson Lampley and Retha Florine Bowman Lampley. Marilyn was a graduate of Eldorado Illinois High School and Southeastern Illinois College, where she earned a degree in social work. This led Marilyn to the job she was most passionate about, a social worker at the Anna Bixby Women’s Center, where she helped battered and abused women. Her interests were horseback riding and barrel racing. She loved her walks in the woods and trails along with searching for weird rocks, arrowheads, and fluorspar. Later in life, she took up riding motorcycles and became a member of Shawnee Hills ABATE.

She is survived by three children, twins, Jeremiah Davis (Brandy Shupp) and Jonathon Davis (Jackie Sweet) and Danean Reed (Jessica Lampert); 5 Davis grandchildren; her mother, Retha Florine Rustin; two sisters, Teresa Lampley Casteel (Will Belford) and Rhonda Lampley Pearcy; half-brother, Jeffery Thomas Lampley; five nephews, Jason, Eric, Nathan, Brendan and Alex; several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas J. Lampley and her step-father, Frank Rustin.
