Lawrence Gibbs

Lawrence Gibbs, Jr., age 72 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away at 2:42 pm on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at his residence.

Family and friends are asked to meet at Joppa Missionary Baptist Church where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2025 with Bro. David Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens.

Lawrence was a member of Joppa Missionary Baptist Church and the Land of Lincoln for 50 years.

Lawrence is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marie Gibbs; sons, Jeremy Leroy Gibbs,  Joey Kenneth Gibbs, and Gary Miller and wife Nana; four grandchildren, Asia, Joseph, Hope, and Dontavis; one great granddaughter; sisters, Etta Gibbs and Sharon Klass; several nieces and nephews.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Lester Gibbs, Sr. and Iva Marie (Depper) Gibbs; an infant daughter; four sisters, Judy, Linda, Brenda, and Kathy; 3 brothers, Richard Gibbs, Donald McDowell, and Bobby Depper.
