LaNell Meyer

LaNell Meyer passed away peacefully on July 31, 2019 at the age of 90.  Born Margaret LaNell House to Alva and Leona House on October 1, 1928, she was their only child.  She lived her entire life in rural Massac County, IL.  She graduated from Joppa High School and attended Southern Illinois University.  She was a teacher at several Massac County schools, including Enterprise, Grinnell and Maple Grove Grade School.  On February 14, 1948, she married Leonard Meyer.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Metropolis and the Grand Chain chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. LaNell was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  After her children were grown she returned to the teaching profession, working as a teacher’s aide at Maple Grove Grade School.  She was an excellent cook and loved gardening and travel, visiting nearly all of the 50 states. More than anything she loved being a grandmother.  She adored her children and grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 10 am until 12 noon at the Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home on Saturday August 3, 2019. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon with Rev. Jon Cockrel officiating.  Burial will follow in Metropolis Memorial Gardens.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, to whom she was married for 45 years. She is survived by her children: Linda Meyer Braam (George) and Glen Meyer (Denise), 4 grandchildren: Christopher Meyer (Kelly), Douglas Braam (Claire), Mitchell Braam (Kimberly) and Tori Meyer Hoffman (Tyler), and 4 great-grandchildren: Riley Meyer, Meier Braam, Caroline Braam and Theo Braam.
