John Guynn Obituary

John A. Guynn, age 75 of Massac County, Illinois passed away at 11:15 pm on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at Mercy Health Lourdes Hospital.

Services will be held at a later date.

John was retired from Riverwood International in Kankakee, Illinois. He was a member of the Machinist Union, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was a member of Waldo Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He served his country in the United States Army 101st Airborne as a Specialist 4 during the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Bronze Star.

John is survived by his children, Thomas Guynn, Matthew Guynn and wife Janie, and Samantha Lillard and husband Jeff; grandchildren, John Alexander, Kierstan, Kylie, Kaden, Deacon, and Wrigley; siblings, Peggy Irwin, Benny Guynn (Barbara), Gale “Doc” Guynn, Joan Witham, Karen Perzee (Cliff), and Margo Wiley; several nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Julius Earl and Agatha “Peggy” (Terry) Guynn; wife, Joyce Guynn; grandchild, Jamie Riley Guynn; siblings, James “Jimmy” Guynn, Jean Steen, Bill Guynn, and Patsy Murphy.

Memorials may be made in John’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105 or Veterans of Foreign Wars, 406 West 34th Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64111.
