Jack A. Yates, age 89 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away Thursday, September 2, 2021 at Baptist Health Paducah.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home. Burial will follow in IOOF Cemetery with military rites.
Jack served in the United States Air Force, was a member of the American Legion Post 306 and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 29 years of service. Jack enjoyed fishing, painting and collecting Indian artifacts. He wrote many poems as well.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Connie Yates Smith of Tuscola, IL; sister, Sharon Lang of Metropolis; brother, James Yates and wife Susan of St. George, UT; several nieces and nephews including James Mitchell and wife Boopie, and Pat Mitchell and wife Judy, Nancy Stern and husband Marc, Kenny Carnes and fiancé Angela, Penny Legereit and fiancé Jonathan, two great nephews, Chandler and Ryan.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and Hester (Hayden) Yates; wife of 45 years, Constance “Connie” Yates; sister, Tula Hendrix; brother, Herbert Yates; ½ brothers, James Mitchell and Merelle Mitchell; nephew, Denny Carnes; niece, Glenda Turner.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2021 from 11 am to 1 pm at Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made in Jack’s name to Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
