Irene (Holt) Moorman

Irene Moorman, age 91 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away at 11:45 pm on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at her daughter’s residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, March 17, 2019 at Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home with Dr. Joe Buchanan officiating. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens.

Irene gave her life to Christ at an early age and she was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church in Metropolis.

She worked at Bonifield Bros Trucking, the Quadri County Health Dept. and along with her husband, owned Moorman’s Clothing Store in Metropolis. She was a school teacher having taught kindergarten in the Massac County School system for many years. She was a graduate of Metropolis Community High School and earned a Bachelor and Master’s degree from Southern Illinois University.

Irene was the first person to accomplish their solo flight at the Metropolis Airport. She enjoyed playing golf and continued to play into her 90th year. She was devoted to her family and played an active role in their lives until the time of her passing.

Irene is survived by her son, Mike Moorman and wife Suzanne; daughter, Jane Ann Gentry and husband Bobby; five grandchildren, Michael Gentry (Jessica), Molly Stratemeyer (Josh), Mallory McVey (Nash), Andrew Moorman (Ashley), and Seth Moorman; seven great grandchildren, Cooper, Chase, and Chaney Stratemeyer, Sawyer Gentry, Brooks McVey and Henry and Jarrett Moorman; sister, Aggie Hopkins; several nieces and nephews.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Fannie (Stephens) Holt; husband, John H. Moorman; brothers, Clarence Holt Jr. and William Holt; sisters, Pearl Farley, Corine Cummins, and Wave Livesay.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2019 from 6 to 8 pm at Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home.
