On October 21, 2023 at 5:21 A.M. Gloria Jean Story passed away quietly with her daughter and dear friends by her side at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, KY.
She fought a brief but courageous battle against multiple life-threatening ailments. Everything Gloria did in her lifetime was done with tremendous strength, courage, and conviction.
Gloria was born on March 8th 1942 in Gallipolis, Ohio to Lance D. and Bessie Lee Sullins in the family home. She was the youngest of 11 children of which she was the last surviving sibling.
She married her late, beloved husband Tom (Tommy to her) Story on June 10th 1962. 10 months later they brought their only child into the world, Tammy Lee Story.
Tom and Gloria went on to own and operate a very successful business, The Fortress Steak House, in Metropolis, Illinois of which they were very proud.
After Toms battle with cancer, of which he succumbed to after a ferocious long battle on October 19th, 2002, Gloria continued to work. She loved working and loved her work family dearly.
She lived her life being a devoted wife, mother, and friend, totally oblivious to the profound and lasting affect she had on the many lives she touched. After being apart for 21 years and 2 days she rejoined her beloved Tommy again.
She leaves behind her only child, Tammy Lee Story, whom she loved fiercely and unconditionally until her last breath.
Forever loved and never to be forgotten. Forever in my heart and spirit, rest in peace Momma.
