Esther (Spencer) McDuffee

Esther McDuffee, 85 of Metropolis, IL, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 24, 2022.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2022 at the Metropolis Memorial Gardens with Rev. Harvey Baxter officiating. There will be no visitation. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.

Esther was a retired laundry supervisor at Good Samaritan Nursing Home. After retirement, she worked for 8 years at J & J Laundry Mat where the term she was referred to by her family, “social butterfly”, made her a welcoming face. Esther was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and in her spare time, she enjoyed crafting, especially quilting.

Esther is survived by her daughters, Sandy Gillihan and Rosemary Baxter (Harvey); sons, Gary McDuffee (Robin) and Loren McDuffee; 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and one niece, Nancy Gavin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Nola (Sullivan) Spencer; husband, James D. McDuffee; sisters, Jewell Kious and Hattie Baker; brothers, Loren Spencer, Willard Spencer, E.P. Spencer, John Spencer, and Laverne “Hoss” Spencer; and an infant brother.
