Mr. Elmer L. Hammond, 86, of Metropolis, IL, formerly of Temple Hill, IL passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2020 at the Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center in Paducah, KY.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, August 1st, 2020 at the Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home with Rev. Matt Snell officiating. Burial will follow in Temple Hill Church Cemetery with military rites.
Elmer was a carpenter and a member of the Carpenters Local Union 640. He was a member of Dixon Springs Baptist Church, American Legion Post 306 in Metropolis and was a U.S. Army veteran. Elmer loved visiting with family and watching NASCAR and football.
Elmer is survived by five children, Pamela “Penny” Adams and husband Derek of Golconda, IL, Rick Hammond and wife Treva of Eldorado, IL, Debbie Ford and husband Fred of Metropolis, IL, Sandra Gentry and husband Benny of Metropolis, and Rod Hammond and wife Dustie of Brookport; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Colbert and husband Terry, Delores Woods and husband Joe and Clara Jungles and husband Gary; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Maxine.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer O. and Lois F. (Oglesby) Hammond; wife, Jean Hammond; granddaughter, Erin Catherine Ford.
Visitation will be held from 11 am to 1 pm on Saturday, August 1st at the funeral home.
