Donald C. Smith

Donald C. Smith, 92 of Metropolis, IL, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024 at Massac Memorial Hospital.

Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church with Father Michael Mujule officiating. Burial will follow in Metropolis Memorial Gardens.

Donald was retired from Electric Energy, Inc and a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church of Metropolis. He was a former faithful member of the Metropolis Kiwanis Club and volunteered for many years at COPE. Donald was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who was so proud of his family and is going to be sorely missed.

Donald is survived by his wife of 64 years, Alice; three children, Susan Wieneke (Dwayne) of Metropolis, Carolyn Dail (Dennis) of Roswell, GA, and Fred Smith (Elizabeth) of St. Louis, MO; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Wieneke (John) of Murray, KY, Jennifer Hawthorne (Mitch) of Murphysboro, IL, Luke Wieneke (Jessie) of Paducah, KY, Becky Leach (Jordan) of Atlanta, GA and Christy Dail of Atlanta, GA; 2 great grandchildren, Madisyn Hawthorne and Lincoln Wieneke.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Connie Smith; and his brother, Richard Smith.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 18th at the church from 10:00 a.m. until mass at 11:00 a.m.
