Dolores (Stamme) Comer

Mrs. Dolores Comer, age 87 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with her daughter Michelle by her side.

A private family service will be held.

Dolores was born on September 28, 1931 to Carl and Floie Stamme. She married her high school sweetheart Sherman Comer in 1949 and shared more than 50 years of marriage. She was a lifelong resident of Metropolis and member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Dolores was well-known for her love of gardening and her talent in arts and crafts. She and Sherman spent their free time “junkin” and collecting antiques. Dolores loved spending time with family and with their “card party” group of friends.

Dolores is survived by her daughter, Michelle Grace and husband Larry; son-in-law, Mike Woods; grandchildren, Miles Woods and wife Des, Marcus Grace and wife Amy, Lucas Grace and wife Sarah, Lyndsay Grace; brother, Gene Stamme; sisters-in-law, Margie Sutton and husband Jim, Dora Fenwick and husband Wayne, and Marie Comer; 10 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sherman Comer; one daughter, Marcie Woods; one granddaughter, Mandy (Woods) Brinker.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Dolores’ name to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church Altar Guild PO Box 816 Metropolis, IL 62960.
