Clara "Polly" Pauline Ragland

Clara Pauline "Polly" Ragland, age 104 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at the Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Metropolis on February 23, 1920 the youngest of eight siblings to John “Butch” and Lillie Mae (Williamson) Williams.

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at the First Methodist Church in Metropolis with Pastor Joey Dunning officiating. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens.

Polly attended school in Metropolis and graduated from Metropolis High School. Ten days after graduation, in 1937, she went to work at Good Luck Glove Company, where she continued to work in the glove industry for 58 years retiring in March 1995 after serving 15 years as Plant Supervisor. She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Metropolis.

Polly is survived by several nieces and nephews including Linda Grace, Larry Grace, Lanny Grace, and Stephen Lingle.

Polly was preceded in death by her parents; 1st husband, Charles Law; 2nd husband, John Ragland; siblings, Bertha Hopson, Estelle Williams, Belle English, Lillian Grace, Otis Williams, Earl Williams, and Fern Williams.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2025 from 11 am until 1 pm at the First Methodist Church in Metropolis.

Memorials may be made in Polly’s name to First Methodist Church, 100 East 5th Street, Metropolis, Illinois 62960.

Pallbearers will be Larry Grace, Lanny Grace, Steve Barham, Steve Miller, Mike Beggs, and Mike Blasdel.
