Billy R. Tanner

Billy R. Tanner, age 83 of Metropolis, Illinois, passed away on Friday, April 18, 2025 at his home with his family by his side.

A graveside service with military rites will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at Hillerman Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jack Russell officiating.

Bill, a lifelong resident of Metropolis, served in the US Army from 1959-1962. He retired from Massac Memorial Hospital after 25 years of service. He was a member of Waldo Baptist Church.

Bill is survived by his wife, Evelyn Tanner; daughters, Jenean Cagle and husband Bret of Marshall, IL and Marsha Parker and husband Keith of Metropolis, IL; step daughter, Lisa Davis and husband Keith of Metropolis, IL; three grandchildren; two step granddaughters; four great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Reakie Tanner; nine brothers; two sisters; and a dear friend, Phil Holt.

Memorials may be made in Bill’s name to Waldo Baptist Church, wheelchair ramp ministry, 6970 Waldo Church Road, Metropolis, Illinois 62960.

Pallbearers will be Keith Parker, Bret Cagle, Aaron Noe, Gerald Tanner, Brandon Parker, and Rick Tanner.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Chris Tanner and Cliff Porter.
