Barbara House Roper-Ashby, age 74 of Paducah, Kentucky formerly of Metropolis, Illinois passed away at 2:30 am on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Mercy Health Lourdes with her family by her side. She was the most loving, caring, unselfish mother, grandmother, and friend. She was dearly loved by all who knew her.
Barbara was a nurse for 40 years. She graduated from nursing school in Cairo, IL where she became an LPN. She went to work for Good Samaritan Nursing Home for 10 years. She then went on to work at Massac Memorial Hospital for another ten years. She left there and went back to school to obtain her R.N. license from Shawnee College and finished out her career at Southern Seven Health Department.
Barbara was born on November 9, 1948 to Orval Roy House and Helen Bernice Albright House in Metropolis, Illinois. They preceded her in death along with her sister Judy House Christoff and brother-in-law Jim Christoff all of Metropolis.
Barbara is survived by her daughters, Rachel Phelps Littlemyer and husband Jim Littlemyer of Princeton, KY, Belinda Roper Marshall of Karnak, IL, and Jamie Roper Dawson of Paducah, KY; grandchildren, Amber Littlemyer Koch and fiancé Robert Carter of Paducah, Kyle Littlemyer and wife Kelsey of Metropolis, Austin Marshall of Karnak, IL, Chase Gibson of Paducah, Georgia Roper of Joppa, IL, and Ireland Dawson of Paducah; step grandchildren, Robert Littlemyer of Paducah, Jimmy Littlemyer of Paducah, Michael Littlemyer of Metropolis, and Amanda Marshall of Vienna, IL; several great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Monday, October 16, 2023 at the Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home with Rev. Sam Bowles officiating. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 16, 2023 from 12 noon to 2 pm at the Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home in Metropolis, Illinois.
Pallbearers will be Justin Dunlap, Robert Carter, Jim Littlemyer, Jon Adams, Olen Spaulding, Austin Marshall, and Corey Marshall.
