Alice June (English) Parkins

Alice June Parkins, 95 of Metropolis, IL, passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2025 at Massac Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025 at Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Forthman, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in IOOF Chosen Friends cemetery.

Alice was the co-owner of The Trading Post in Metropolis for 39 years where she gained many friendships. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Metropolis and in her later years, attended New Hope Baptist Church with family. Alice enjoyed traveling, gardening, horseback riding, dancing, playing Bingo and “snowbirding” to her home in Beverly Hills, FL.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Paula Cummins and husband Bruce; grandchildren, Jason Cummins (Cheryl), Shelly Stewart (Richard), Kim Ferguson (Daren), Marcie Parkins, Olivia Hoxworth (Patrick), and Megan Parkins; 11 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lavelle English; mother, Shirley Alice (Martin) English Barker; stepfather, James Barker; husband, Paul Parkins; son, Michael Parkins; grandson, Gregory Parkins; sister, Eloise Davis; and brother, Gene English.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Friday, December 12th at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be given in Alice’s name to New Hope Baptist Church, 6804 New Columbia Road, Grantsburg, IL 62943.
