Mr. William Glen Cartwright, age 85, of Metropolis, IL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the Metropolis Rehab and Health Care Center.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens.Mr. Cartwright was born on March 22, 1930 and graduated from Butler High School in May of 1948. He was a Navy Veteran, serving from January 1949 to January 1950 and married Dorla Stallings on June 8, 1952. Bill was a member of the First Christian Church in Princeton and Metropolis and was a deacon, board chairman, Sunday school teacher and elder. Bill loved sports, especially the Chicago Cubs and the University of Kentucky Wildcats. He was a referee in Southern Illinois for basketball and coached Khoury League baseball and little league football. Mr. Cartwright was a warehouse manager and purchasing agent at D.W.I. in Paducah for 40 plus years.Bill is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorla Cartwright of Metropolis; 3 children, Yvonne Dee Burnett of Bourbonnais, IL, David Glen Cartwright and wife Amy of Fairfax, VA, and Sharon Lee Ely and husband Scott of Paducah, KY; 4 grandchildren, Chelsea Crittenden, Amanda Cartwright, Austin Cartwright, and Clayton Ely; 1 great grandchild, Conrad Crittenden; one sister, Norma Sue P'Pool of Princeton, KY; 1 niece, Glenda Simpson; 1 nephew, Brad P'Pool.He was preceded in death by his parents, William Glen and Bessie Edith (Glass) Cartwright.Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2015 at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home.Online condolences may be left at www.aikinsfarmer-millerfh.com.Musica
