Mr. William Franklin Barger, age 88 of Brookport, Illinois peacefully went to be with the Lord with his family by his side at 11:45 p.m. on Monday, July 28, 2014 at his residence.Graveside services with Military Rites will be held at 1 pm on Friday, August 1, 2014 at the New Liberty Cemetery in Pope County, Illinois. Rev. Frank Forthman will officiate.William was a life-long farmer, was saved at the age of 17, and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. He left at the age of 17 in 1943 to serve his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II for four years. He served on a Picket Boat in the Pacific Theatre on the Islands of Peleliu.William is survived by his daughter, Janet Taylor and husband John of Brookport, IL; grandsons, Jim Taylor and Jeff Taylor both of Brookport, IL; 4 great grandchildren, Noah Taylor of Metropolis, IL, Faith Taylor, Gracelyn Taylor, and Trinity Taylor all of Lake City, KY; several nieces and nephews.William was preceded in death by his parents, Will S. and Ruby B. (Brush) Barger; wife of 66 years, Freida Helen (Alley) Barger; 2 sisters, Emma Sullivan and Mae Rose; 1 brother, James Barger.Visitation will be held on Friday, August 1, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis, IL.Pallbearers will be John Taylor, Jim Taylor, Jeff Taylor, and Tommy Carrell.Honorary Pallbearer will be Charlie Peppersack.The family would like to say thank you to Dr. Randy Oliver and his staff, Lourdes Hospice, and say a special thank you to Sandy Hines for the excellent care they provided for William.Online condolences may be left at www.aikinsfarmer-millerfh.com.
