Mr. Wilfred Horntrop, age 101 of Metropolis, IL passed away at 7:15 pm on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at his residence.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at the Zion United Church of Christ. Dr. James D. Nelson will officiate. Burial will follow in the St. John's Church Cemetery.Wilfred was a lifelong farmer and his hobby was woodworking. He specialized in Grandfather clocks. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ and always had a smile and a greeting for everyone friend or stranger.He is survived by his sister, Frieda Koch of Metropolis, IL.He was preceded in death by his parents, Edd and Alvena (Busclas) Horntrop; his wife of 69 years, Ruth (Wehrmeyer) Horntrop.Visitation will held on Thursday, June 6, 2013 from 10:00 am until 10:30 am at the Zion United Church of Christ.Memorials may be made to Zion United Church of Christ, 1132 Country Club Road, Metropolis, Illinois 62960.Music will be provided by Connie Hefner, organist/pianist and Steve and Norma Korte, soloists.Pallbearers will be Alan Schaffer, Marvin Eckenberg, Jerry Windhorst, David Gragg, Jerry Gentry, and Monte Bremer.Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Bormann and Eugene Stratemeyer.Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis is in charge of arrangements.
