Vonna Lee Gray Jones Smith, age 98, of Metropolis, IL, died September 17, 2016. Mrs. Smith was born in Petersburg, IN November 9, 1917. There she married Malcom S. "Scotty" Jones. They lived in Detroit, MI, Lagrange, IN, and East Peoria, IL. Vonna worked in Peoria, IL, at the Bemis Company where she introduced her future son-in-law to her daughter Judy. Her husband Scotty died after 37 years of marriage. After retiring, she married Ted Smith of Dunlap, IL and moved to a home on Kentucky Lake. She enjoyed 20 years of family time on the lake before moving to Metropolis. For the past several years, she was a resident of Southgate Nursing and Rehab where she received loving care and was known for her sweet smile which was a blessing to the residents and staff. Vonna is survived by one daughter, Judy Lester and husband Jim of Metropolis, IL; four grandchildren, Scott Lester and wife Terri of Burleson, TX, Janet Foster and husband John and Laurie Glass and husband David all of Metropolis, IL, Ann Husk and husband Mark of Bloomington, IL; seven great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and nephew, Bill Arnold and wife Barb of East Peoria, IL. Vonna also had special family, Gary (Chris) Smith of Dunlap, IL, Bonnie (Glenn) Fitch of Peoria, IL, Roger (Candy) Smith of Chillicothe, IL and their families. She was preceded in death by husbands, Scott Jones and Ted Smith; her parents; one sister; one brother; two half-brothers and three half-sisters. A memorial service will be held at Miller Funeral Home on November 5, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. Rev. Jon Cockrel will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Her ashes will be buried at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Petersburg, IN.
