Virginia Phelps, 93, of Metropolis, IL, passed away at Southgate Health Care Center on Wednesday, April 12, 2017. Virginia was born on December 11, 1923 in Johnson County, IL to Mike and Emma Robinson.

Virginia grew up in Simpson, IL where she went to school and later married Ronald Phelps. She became a housewife and together they were farmers. Their only child Marguerite was born April 15, 1939. Virginia and Ronald moved to Metropolis in the 1980s. Ronald died in 1984 and Marguerite devoted her life to taking care of her mother ever since. Virginia was dedicated to her family and enjoyed each and every one of them. She loved making a Sunday dinner and having everyone together until her health gradually declined to where she moved to the health care center. She was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church. Even after her failing health removed her from the physical church, Virginia continued to be a faithful prayer warrior for her church family as well as her family and country. She loved watching her idol Rev. Billy Graham as well as Dr. Charles Stanley, Joyce Meyer, and Adrian Rogers to hear the Word.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Marguerite Borum and husband Bob of Metropolis; two grandchildren, Robin (Dee) Borum of Metropolis and Rhonda Hausman (Ron Carpenter) of Metropolis; four great grandchildren, Haley Hausman of Nashville, TN, Hilary Hausman of Metropolis and their father, Michael Hausman, Timmy (Brittany) Johnson and Emily Borum all of Metropolis; two sisters, Delores (John) Jenne of Centre, AL and Mary Shaw of Davie, FL; half brother, Donald Ray Robinson of NC; special friends, Margot Hayden and Karen Elam and son William; as well as several nieces and nephews.
