Virgie Oliver, age 86, of Metropolis, IL, died on Monday, February 24, 2014 at the Metropolis Rehab and Health Care Center with her family by her side.Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2014, at the First Christian Church in Metropolis. Rev. Rob Rixman will officiate. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens.Mrs. Oliver attended nursing school in St. Louis before returning to Metropolis, where she worked at the Fisher Hospital and married her sweetheart, Kenneth Oliver, when he returned from WWII. Virgie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who worked tirelessly to make a loving home for her family. She and her husband were long-time members of the First Christian Church, singing in the choir for over 50 years. Virgie later worked as an office manager for her and Kenneth's business, Tri-State Filter Co.Virgie is survived by her son, Randy Oliver and wife Kay of Metropolis; daughter, Judy Early and husband John of Golden, CO; 4 grandchildren, Amy Krueger and husband Bryan of Metropolis, Ryan Oliver and wife Rachel of Paducah, Denny Bauer and wife Rebecca of Austin, TX and Zachary Bauer and wife Amanda of Golden, CO; 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
