Verla "Joann" Fowler, age 76 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away at 11:52 am on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at the Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at the Miller Funeral Home. Rev. Bobby Parker will officiate. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens.Joann worked as a young girl at the Massac Theater, then as a waitress at the Shamrock Café, then she retired from Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where she worked as a Certified Nurse's Aide. She was of the Baptist Faith.Joann is survived by her sons, William K. "Bill" Fowler and wife Jamie and Todd D. Fowler and wife Melissa; grandchildren, Justin, Josh, Clayton, Cody, Kourtney, Alysha, Kelsey, and Dakota Fowler; great grandchildren, Kameron Fowler and Hunter Grace Fowler all of Metropolis, IL; several nieces and nephews.Joann was preceded in death by her parents, William Kenneth and Beulah Gertrude (Barger) Kirk; husband of 40 years, Robert "Pete" Fowler; 2 sisters, Sylvia Kirk and Margie Simpson; 2 brothers, James O. Kirk and Lester Kirk.Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2015 from 12 pm to 2 pm at the Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis.Pallbearers will be Cody Fowler, Justin Fowler, Josh Fowler, CJ Fowler, Jared Holder, and Randy Harris.Memorials may be made to Lourdes Hospice, PO Box 7100, Paducah, KY 42002-7100Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis is in charge of arrangements.
