Thomas E. Shelton 90, of Metropolis passed away Saturday, September 20, 2014 at his residence.Graveside services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, September 22, 2014 at Metropolis Memorial Gardens with Rev. Jon Cockrel officiating. There will be no visitation, friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.Mr. Shelton is survived by his wife of over 71 years, Frances Meeks Shelton of Metropolis, two nephews, Mike Shelton Joppa, IL, and Hosea Lowell Jump of Elkhart, IN, and one niece Diane Giltner of Reddick, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Harvey Shelton and Catherine Parker Shelton; 3 sisters, Floy Jump, Hautie Cockrel, Clara Hausman, 2 brothers, George Shelton and Charles Shelton; and infant brother, Fred Harvey Shelton. Mr. Shelton worked for the Good Luck Glove Factory for 29 years and then for the State of Illinois Prison System as a shift commander for 20 years. Mr. Shelton was also a long time member of the Masonic Lodge 91 of Metropolis. Aikins Farmer Funeral Home of Metropolis is in charge of arrangements.
