Thomas Daniel "Dan" Pogue, aka, "Dan the Milkman", 85 of Metropolis, IL, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Baptist Health Paducah.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at the Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home with Natalie Harris officiating. Burial will follow in I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Dan was born on the 4th of July in 1938 to Thomas and Era Pogue in Eupora, MS. Dan arrived in Metropolis after being transferred to the town Kroger for work as a butcher. In the mid 70's, he purchased a milk route delivering for Midwest Farms, which then became Flav-O-Rich, and finally Turner Dairy until his retirement.

Dan was a man who enjoyed checking things off his bucket list. He gained his pilots license and owned his own plane for some time, rode dirt bikes, and street bikes with locals all over Southern Illinois. He was an avid bowler and softball player, as well as coached and sponsored a slow-pitch softball team in town. He also enjoyed collecting Aladdin kerosene lamps and antique clocks to fix up.

Dan is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Margaret (Kommer) Pogue; sons, Mark Pogue and wife Janice and Scott Pogue and wife Tammy; stepchildren, Sara Kimmel (Mike), Paulette Stokes (Bill), and Karen Frieze; special granddaughter who was like their daughter, Carroll Isoline; grandchildren, Briana Moser, Autum Knight, Danielle Benoit, Audrey Harris, Elizabeth Pogue, Kristina Pogue; step grandchildren, David Hausman, Doris Wickett, Donna Keeling, Deric Hausman, Erica Johnson, Charles Allen Stokes, Bobby Cougill, Jenny Maloney, Jo Nell Cougill; numerous great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Noel and Era Pogue; daughter, Leslie Colette; step son, Kevin Hausman; sister, Bernice Russell; brothers, Nelson Pogue and Manuel Pogue.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023 from 12 pm to 2 pm at the Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home.
