February 3, 1948 – October 20, 2024
Steven "Steve" Cochran, 76 of Metropolis, IL, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at Southgate Health Care Center surrounded by family.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at the Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home with Bro. Russell Gilbert officiating. Burial will follow in Metropolis Memorial Gardens.
Steve was retired from the Forest Hills Housing Authority as maintenance supervisor. He was of Pentecostal faith, a member of the Massac County Historical Society served his country through the United State Army during the Vietnam War. One of his favorite hobbies was yard sales; you could find him more times than not, setting one up in front of his house with his mom. After his mother's death, Steve created a foundation for cats, which they had a mutual affection for, in Massac County called Maisie's Caring for Cats.
Steve is survived by his sister, Maureen Walter; his faithful cats; cousins, Misty Powell, Whitney Powell, Jamia Powell, Terri Abernathy (Jonathan), Katelyn Yates, Kassy Horstman, and Michael Powell, nephews, Dustin Walter (Hillary) and Clayton Walter; niece Kristen Walter; aunt, Anna Louise Drew; as well as several other cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leo L. Cochran; mother, Maisie Morley Cochran Smith; brother, Michael Joseph Cochran, nephew, Christopher David Walter; stepfather, Judge Carl Smith; grandparents, James and Ida Cochran and Joseph and Florence Morley; and his buddy and special cousin, Billy Joe Powell.
Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, October 23, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be given in Steve's name to the American Cancer Society, 1 E. Wacker Drive, Suite 1500, Chicago, Il 60601-1851.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Abernathy, Dustin Medley, Michael Powell, Kevin McBride, Gary Cochran, and Jackson Cochran.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Griffey and Charles Cochran.
