Shirley Woods-Thompson, 80, of Metropolis, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2015 atMassac Memorial Hospital where she was surrounded by family.Services for Shirley Woods-Thompson will be held at Miller Funeral Home at 11 am on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 with Elder Gordon Ashley and Elder Ivan Woods officiating.If you were to ask Shirley when her birthday was she would reply "December 12, 1934";however, in her older age her estranged birth certificate was obtained and bares thedate of December 16, 1934. This stubborn broad still continued to celebrate onDecember 12th though. She was the daughter to the late Lena Marie and William Ashbyand has resided in Illinois her entire life.On October 20,1951 Shirley became Mrs. Darkus Woods. They were married throughWWll and had six children together before Darkus died at in 1980 at the early age of 48.She was married later in life to Robby Thompson who she spent the rest of her dayswith.Most important to Shirley was family. Her life was spent as a devote and loving mother,grandmother, great- grandmother, and great-great grandmother.In December 2014 this spunky, stubborn, diva lady had her last birthday party, tocelebrate her long life. At this party she was found looking gorgeous with her trendyjewelry, a huge smile on her face, and family and friends around her.Survivors include her husband Robert Thompson of Metropolis; six children, MikeWoods and his wife Marcy, Ivan Woods and his wife Mae, Glenn Woods, Pamela Suggsand husband John, and Lisa Sommer all of Metropolis, as well as Randy Woods andwife Pamela of Brookport; 15 grandchildren, John, Brian, Casey, Ashley, Anthony,Mandy, Miles, Jessica,Tyler, Aaron, Amber, Alisha, Kevin, Scotty, and Dustin; as well as18 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; a brother, Ron Ashby ofMetropolis, and sister Vickie Owens of Metropolis and several nieces and nephews.Preceededing her in death are her parents Lena Marie and William Ashby, late husbandDarkus 'Woody' Woods, sisters Lola Travis and Betty Bunting, as well as brothers BillyBruce Ashby, and Dick Ashby, a son, Charles Lee Woods.Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 from 9 am until 11 am at the Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis.Online condolences may be left at www.aikinsfarmer-millerfh.com
