Shirley A. Stewart, 82 of Metropolis went home to be with the Lord with family by her side at 12:50 pm on Saturday, June 11, 2022.

Shirley was born an only child to Lloyd and Cordelia Griffey. She was lucky enough to marry her soulmate, Jan "Pop" Stewart. Together they built a wonderful life they both loved and enjoyed spending their time side by side.

Shirley worked for Country Companies for many years before becoming a local business owner. Shirley and Jan owned Ponderosa, Best Western Metropolis Inn, The Place Restaurant, and J.L. Stewart construction. Shirley was dedicated to all of her businesses and spent most of her time there.

Shirley is survived by her two daughters, Teressa Stewart and Debra Stewart and partner Eddie Ozga of Metropolis; two granddaughters, Raven Cohoon and husband Adam of Metropolis and Krystal Kelley and husband Neil of Mount Vernon, KY; and five great grandchildren, Ethan Smith-Short and Austin Cohoon both of Metropolis and Dalton Durham, Hope Kelley, and Blayne Kelley all of Mount Vernon, KY.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Cordelia Griffey; her husband, Jan "Pop" Stewart; and first husband, Arnell Gene Tanner.

Shirley will be cremated and a celebration of her life will be held at Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home in Metropolis, Illinois. Visitation will be at 11:00 am with the funeral to follow at 12:00 noon on Saturday, June 18, 2022. Close family friend, Shawn Cofield will be officiating. There will be no burial to follow.
