Sgt. James A. Johnston, age 73 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away on Monday morning, January 17, 2022 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home with Justin Wolfe and Ivan Woods officiating. Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery with military rites.

James served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, was a member of Community of Christ Church in Metropolis, and the Disabled American Veterans.

James is survived by his sons, James A. Johnston and wife Brandi and Steven Johnston and wife Lisa; grandchildren; Trevor, Serenity, Kendra, David, Taryn, Brantley, Dalis, Ireland, and several other grandchildren; several great grandchildren; sisters, Cathy Darnell and Vickie Hall; brother, Phillip Johnston; several nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Buddie and Florida (Baynes) Johnston; sisters, Faye Draffen, Mary Hornback, Rhonda Peck, Linda Pennington, and Norma Cavitt; brothers, Loyd "Pee Wee" Johnston, Stevie Johnston, and Jerry Johnston; a few nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022 from 12 noon to 2 pm at Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home.
