Mr. Roy Thomas Cooper, Jr., age 68 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away at 10:15 p.m. on Friday, October 24, 2014 at his residence.Born on January 25, 1946, in Paducah, KY, Roy was a retired mechanic having worked as an automobile mechanic and an industrial maintenance mechanic. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion Chief Paduke Post #31, Masonic Lodge #91, Disabled American Veterans Post #7 and was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving in the Vietnam War.Roy was a proud father and grandfather. He enjoyed cooking as well as being outdoors boating, fishing and camping. Roy cherished the time with his family and friends and would always lend a hand. He volunteered as Financial Officer at the American Legion and Quarter Master at the VFW. Through his love for cooking, Roy was also a supporter and cook at many local VFW and Moose Lodge events and fundraisers.Roy is survived by his daughter, Cathleen Cooper of Broomfield, CO; son, Timothy Cooper of Paducah, KY; mother, Geneva Rust Cooper Hargrove of Paducah, KY; 5 grandchildren, Cathryn Cooper, Thomas Cooper, Caryn Cooper, Max Stamm, and Blake Stamm; 2 sisters, Judy Jones of Princeton, KY and Jenny Walters of Metropolis, IL; 3 brothers, Mike Cooper of Metropolis, IL, Steve Cooper of Mexico, and Chris Cooper of Chicago, IL; special friend, Deb Griffey of Joppa; several nieces and nephews.Roy was preceded in death by his father, Roy Thomas Cooper Sr. and 1 brother, Jerald Cooper.Family and friends will gather on Wednesday evening October 29, 2014 from 6 to 8 pm at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis, IL with military rites being conducted at 6 pm and Masonic Rites at 7:30 pm.Expressions of sympathy may be given to the Disabled American Veterans P.O.
