Mr. Rodney R. Parmley, 89 years old, of Metropolis, IL, departed this life to go to his heavenly home at 8:15 a.m. on Sunday morning, November 3, 2013 with his wife of 40 years, Jean Parmley, by his side.Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at the Aikins Farmer Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Tate and Vern Giltner officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Sterling Cemetery.Rodney was born in Pope County but later moved to Metropolis where he lived until his passing. He was employed by Laidlaw Corp. and then the City of Metropolis until his retirement. His first love after retiring was taking his grandchildren fishing. His second love was gardening, especially growing his tomatoes, taking pride in giving them to his friends and neighbors. Rodney is survived by his wife Jean; 1 stepson, Don Powell and wife Debby of Nashville, TN; 6 grandchildren, Donnie, Jennifer, Missy, Brian, Brandon and Morgan Powell; 5 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and 3 nephews, Russell, Gary and Jim Parmley.He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Ruth Parmley; 2 stepsons, Kenny and Brad Powell; 2 brothers, Major and Mac Parmley; and 1 sister, Paulene Cromeenes.Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m at the Aikins Farmer Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 5, 2013.
