Obituary

Mr. Robert Wilcox, age 90, of Metropolis, IL, passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home with Rev. Stan Reid officiating. Burial will follow in Metropolis Memorial Gardens with military rites. Mr. Wilcox was a World War II Airforce veteran serving in Guam and Japan. He was a sports fanatic especially about baseball and basketball. Robert tried out for the Chicago Cubs but was drafted before finding out his fate. After the war, he was able to try out for the St. Louis Cardinals but decided to start at career at EEI instead. He was a lifelong member of the Masonic Lodge 91 and attained the degree of Master Mason. He was also a member of First Baptist Church in Metropolis but also attended Lone Oak First Baptist Church. He was a lifelong friend of George Hayes and they enjoyed building and remodeling houses. Most importantly he was a role model and cheerleader for his children, grandsons, and great grandchildren, always available when they needed him. Robert is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ludene (Cozart) Wilcox; one daughter, Jennifer Adams of Paducah, KY; and David Wilcox and wife Sharon of Jackson, TN; two grandsons, Jacob Adams of Atlanta, GA and Jordan Adams of Ft. Meyers, FL; one step granddaughter, Meghan Sara Novic of Michigan; two great grandchildren, Christopher and Mia Gonzalez; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Etta (Kerley) Wilcox; two brothers, Kenneth Wilcox and Aaron Wilcox; three sisters, Mary Elizabeth Wilcox, Pauline Duncan and Bonnie Couch; one son-in-law, Carl E. Adams. Visitation will be held from 12 noon until the funeral hour at 2pm at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home with Masonic Rites starting at 1:30pm. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations can be given to the Metropolis First Baptist Church 307 Massac Creek Road Metropolis, IL 62960 or Lone Oak First Baptist Church 3601 Lone Oak Road Paducah, KY 42003.
