Robert L. "Bob" King, age 84 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away at 3:00 am on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at the Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center at Lourdes Hospital.Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Waldo Baptist Church. Rev. Trad York, Rev. David Deem, and Rev. Jack Russell officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillerman Baptist Church Cemetery with military rites.Bob was retired from Missouri Portland, First Christian Church in Paducah, KY, had worked as a custodian at Joppa Maple Grove and Joppa High School, and was previously employed with Miller Funeral Home for several years. He was a Mason for over 60 years, a member of Waldo Baptist Church, and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving during the Korean War.Bob is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sharon King of Metropolis, IL; sons, Robert Lee King II and wife Kathy of Granite City, IL and Michael King and wife JoAnn of Metropolis, IL; 6 grandchildren, Robert Lee King III of Paducah, KY, Michael David King of Paducah, KY, Kelly Wayne Patrick of Grand Tower, IL, Zane Patrick of Granite City, IL, Taylor King of Metropolis, IL and Alex King of Metropolis, IL; 11 great grandchildren; siblings, Jim King and wife Pearl of Joppa, IL, Ethel Harville of Joppa, IL, Margaret Black and husband Tom of Villa Grove, IL, Pete Story and wife Barbara of Metropolis, IL, Frank Story and wife Mary Jane of Beecher, IL, Norris Story of Joppa, IL, Jerry Story and wife Deloris of NY, Peggy Vaughn of AL, Irene "Dago" Freeman of GA, and Debbie Saylor and husband James of AR; several nieces and nephews, including 2 special nieces, Lisa Sommer and Tracee Childers both of Metropolis, IL.Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest King and Ella Louise (Deahl) Story; siblings, Moss Story, Dorothy Lewis, Harley "Bub" Story, John D. Story, Lula Belle Becker, and Carroll "Popeye" Story; nephew, Damon Harville.Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 21, 2016 from 12 pm to 2 pm at the Waldo Baptist Church.
