Phyllis Gene Huckleberry, age 88 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away at 6:20 pm on Friday, October 23, 2015 at the Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home with Rev. David Godfrey officiating. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens.Phyllis was retired from Massac Memorial Hospital where she worked as a Surgical Technician. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Metropolis where she served on the board, was a deacon, and Sunday School Teacher. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.Phyllis is survived by 1 daughter, Barbara Christian of Metropolis, IL; 2 sons, Stephen Huckleberry and wife Jan of Newark, DE and Ronnie Huckleberry and wife Rhonda of Metropolis, IL; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer Christian of Metropolis, IL, Dow, Sarah, and Maggie Huckleberry of Newark, DE, Jeremy Mescher and wife Jennifer of Cape Girardeau, MO, Stacey Fike of Metropolis, IL; 5 great grandchildren, Austin Godfrey and wife Breanna of St. Charles, MO, Carson Godfrey and wife Taryn of Clarksville, TN, Dalton Godfrey of Metropolis, IL, Nick and Karci Mescher of Mayfield, KY; 2 great great grandchildren, Whyatte and Anthony Matthews of Clarksville, TN; several nieces and nephews.Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Gladys (McGee) Morris; husband, George LeRay Huckleberry; 1 sister, Betty Umphress; 3 brothers, Andrew Morris, Darrell Morris, and Beverly Morris.Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 from 11 am to 1 pm at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis, Illinois.Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater IL Chapter, 320 E.
