Paul E. Fellows, 83, of Metropolis, died July 14, 2025, at home.
Graveside service will be held at 1 pm on Friday, July 18, 2025 at Metropolis Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Joey Dunning officiating. There will be no visitation. Family and friends are invited to come directly to the cemetery.
Mr. Fellows graduated from Pipestone, Minn. High School, class of 1960. He received his bachelor's degree from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn. and did graduate work at the University of Arizona in Tucson. He worked for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources as historic site superintendent at Fort de Chartres and Fort Massac state parks.
Mr. Fellows wrote the "Yesterday's News" column in the Metropolis Planet, as well as a series of books titled Massac Memories.
He was a charter member of Massac County Historical Society, where he served as president for many years. He was also a member of Kincaid Mounds Support Organization, Metropolis First Methodist Church and Massac Gun Club.
He is survived by Elizabeth (Betsy) Fellows, his wife of 58 years, of Metropolis; two sons, Stephen Fellows of Murphysboro and Andrew Fellows and wife Amanda Keathley of Louisville, Ky.; one daughter, Elizabeth Brown and husband Robert of St. Louis, Mo.; one grandson, Wyatt Brown of St. Louis, Mo.; one sister, Judy Fellows of Pipestone, Minn.; one sister-in-law, Carol Heburn and husband Thomas of Rome, N.Y.; and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Julia Lusk Fellows.
