Feb 26, 1947 — Jun 28, 2026
Paul James “PJ” Carnahan, age 79, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026 at his home, after a long and courageous battle, surrounded by those he loved.
Born on February 26, 1947, in Vincennes, Indiana, he was the son of Paul and Mary Carnahan.
After attending Vincennes University, where he completed two years of electronics schooling, Paul began his career with IBM. When he was drafted into the United States Army, he proudly served as a radio mechanic and tank operator/gunner during the Cold War before returning to IBM, where he spent more than 35 years as a computer service technician. His work took him to businesses throughout the area, where his knowledge, dedication, and friendly personality earned the respect and friendship of countless customers and coworkers.
He will be remembered as a hardworking, resilient, and caring man whose quiet strength carried him through life's challenges. Those who knew him knew he was tough, determined, and deeply devoted to the people he loved. His mother always said he was tough, and throughout his life he proved her right.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mary Carnahan.
He is survived by one son, Brandon Carnahan and Jill Hatton; two stepchildren, Lori Jackson (Jeff) and Jason Krueger (Brandye); his sister, Janice Longabaugh (Chuck); and his nieces, nephew, grandchildren, friends, and all who will cherish his memory.
His strength and example will continue to live on in those who knew and loved him.
Paul was also a longtime member of American Legion Post 306 and the Massac Gun & Bow Club.
In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated, and a private burial beside his parents will be held at a later date.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the VA Home-Based Primary Care team and to all who offered support, kindness, and prayers during his final journey.
Paul fought with remarkable courage until the very end. While he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing that he is now at peace.
