Owen Hoyer, age 78, of Brookport, IL, passed away early on the morning of June 17, 2015 at Baptist Health Paducah. He was surrounded by his wife of nearly 56 years, his four children, and family.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 22, 2015, at the Brookport Funeral Home with Don Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Pell Cemetery.Owen was a member of Brookport Church of Christ for 50 years. In 1959, Owen married Cheryl Reynolds. In 1965, Owen and Cheryl moved from their home in Paragould, AR to southern Illinois to work in the timber business. Within a few years, his timber work transitioned into the repair of chainsaws and eventually grew into a family business which is known today as Hoyer Outdoor Equipment, Inc. He took great pride in the fact that the business is still owned and operated by second and third generation of family.With the love and support of a good godly woman, Owen's life work was with his hands; running a sawmill, raising cattle, tending an orchard, repairing equipment; his day's work was never done. His love of trees was evident in every way; planting, pruning, and eating the fruit from them. He also enjoyed woodworking with lumber from his mill.Owen was born on February 13, 1937 in Greene County, AR. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; one son, Keith Hoyer and wife Cheryl Ann; three daughters, Geneene Bremer and husband Derril, Melody Schulte and husband Dave, and Anita Love and husband Chris all of Brookport, IL; eleven grandchildren, Ben Bremer and wife Jessica of Metropolis; Erin Helal and husband Omar of St. Louis, MO, Daniel Hoyer and wife Jessica of Memphis, TN, Dylan, Kyle, and Laken Hoyer of Brookport, April Schulte of Henderson, TN, Ethan and Emily Schulte of Brookport, Hunter and Emma Grace Love of Brookport; 2 great grandchildren, Anniston and Carter Bremer; two brothers, Dennis Hoyer of Paragould, AR and Ronnie Hoyer and wife Cheryl of Olive Branch, MS; one sister-in-law Betty Hoyer of Paragould, AR; and many nieces and nephews.Owen was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Ollie Hoyer; two brothers, Donald and Claude Hoyer; one nephew and one niece.Visitation will be held on Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on June 21, 2015 at the Brookport Funeral Home and from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 22.Memorial contributions may be to Children's Homes, Inc., 5515 Walcott RD, Paragould, AR 72450-3319
