It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Omeda “Kay” Lewis Evans, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who died on September 11, 2026. Kay built a life full of faith, family, and service.

She left a lasting impression on so many lives with her kindness, support and generosity. Her family will remember her strength, her prayers, and the love that shaped their lives. Her love of travelling made the phrase “Driving Miss Daisy” a staple with her family. Her love for bowling always brought a little competition to days spent with Grandma. She never passed up a good deal on something with a little red farm truck.

She is survived by her children, Gary (Janet) McDonald, Debbie Barr, Kevin (Connie) McDonald, and Jason (Kristin) McDonald. Multiple grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild.

Per her wishes, no public service will be held. Donations can be made in her memory to SIU School of Medicine Research at SIU Foundation 1234 S. Illinois Ave. Carbondale, IL, 62901.

Her love remains a guiding presence for all who knew her.
