Obituary

Michael Allen Hendrix, 79, of Brookport, Illinois, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2026, with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren by his side.

Michael was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, musician, and friend whose life was defined by his unwavering dedication to his family. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy before beginning a long career at Vienna Correctional Center, where he worked faithfully for many years.

Music was one of Michael's greatest passions. He was a gifted songwriter, singer, and guitarist who spent countless hours sharing his love of music with those around him. Whether playing guitar, writing songs, or spending time with his family, Michael embraced every opportunity to do what he loved most.

Above all else, Michael's greatest pride and purpose was his family. He was a loving father to his daughters, Phaedra Strong and her husband, John, and Nora Saxton and her husband, Jerome. He was a proud grandfather to Allyson Jefferson and her husband, Ryan, and Makiah Cox. He was a cherished great-grandfather to Rylie Jefferson and Phoenixx Jefferson.

Michael shared an extraordinary love story with his beloved wife, Carol Hendrix. The two met in the sixth grade and remained inseparable throughout their lives. They were married for 59 years, building a lifetime of memories, devotion, and unconditional love together. Carol preceded Michael in death by just three weeks. Their bond was so profound that Michael passed away almost to the minute of the time Carol had passed, a testament to a love that endured for a lifetime and beyond.

Those who knew Michael will remember his love of music, his sense of humor, and the way he always put his family first.

In accordance with Michael's wishes, there will be no services.

The family thanks everyone for their thoughts, prayers, and support during this difficult time.
