Mary Elizabeth Varvel, age 40, of Metropolis, IL, passed away at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2013 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO with her mother and husband Paul by her side.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at the Brookport First Church of God. Rev. Charles Tate will officiate. Burial will follow in Otterbein Cemetery.Ms. Varvel attended Brookport First Church of God.Mary is survived by her husband, Paul Elliot of Metropolis; her mother, Norma Varvel of Brookport; 1 brother, Gary Varvel; 2 nieces, Bethany Varvel, Keisha Vineyard; 1 nephew, Kyle Vineyard; several great nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her father, Gary Richard Varvel; 2 aunts, Sherry Oien, Gale Galbraith.; paternal grandparents, Howard and Irene Varvel; her maternal grandparents, Ross and Lyllian Burrus; 2 uncles, Jimmy and Jack Burrus.Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 30 at the Brookport First Church of God.Aikins Farmer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
