Mrs. Mary Taylor, age 100, of Joppa, IL, passed away at 1:20 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at the Southgate Nursing and Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 16, 2016, at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis with Rev. Pete Ryan officiating. Burial will follow in Metropolis Memorial Gardens. Mary was a lifelong member of Joppa Methodist Church. Her husband Jack operated a grocery in Joppa. The only thing she ever said she wanted to be was a wife and mom and she succeeded at both. Mary is survived by her daughter, Judy Haverkamp of Metropolis; son, Chris Taylor and wife Marisa of Golconda, IL; daughter-in-law, Robbie Taylor of Metropolis; 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Casper and Versie (Tucker) Cockrel; husband, Jack Taylor; son, John Taylor; son-in-law, Don Haverkamp; and 6 brothers, Freeman, Floyd, Ed, Raymond, Sam, and Joshua Cockrel. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 16, 2016 at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1:00 p.m. Online condolences may be left at www.aikinsfarmer-millerfh.com.
