Celebration of Eternal Life

Of

Mary Ruth Parker Fossie

What happened during the era of the 1920's?

Dance:  Charleston, shimmy, foxtrot, jitterbug, swing, tango, waltz, dance bands

Movie:  Vaudeville and Broadway shows,

Music:   Ella Fitzgerald, jazz, blues,

World's Event:   The Crash of Wall Street

Most importantly of these events, Mary Ruth Parker was born to the union of Bonnie Mae and James Parker, December 3rd, 1928 in Paris, Tennessee. Her birth father died when she was a small child. She then was raised and loved by her devoted and loving step-father, Ollie Puckett in Metropolis, IL.

Mary grew and blossomed into a lovely fun acting person. She embraced her family and friends with her humor, antics, and mischiefs.

As a young lady, she met and married the love of her life, William Edward Fossie; they married on April 24, 1950 in Metropolis, IL.  She bore him one child, Edward Jerome Fossie, fondly called Jackie, whom they loved and adored immensely. Mary's parents, husband, and child preceded her in death.

Mary would recant stories about her loved ones and friends affectionally, and comically. She would recall special events or moments they spent together; she would tell stories about the adventures, fun, and mischiefs she had with her old dear friends; Mary Alice, Dorothy, Evelyn, Nunley, Irene, Noonie, and many more. Mary was known for her kindness for helping and aiding her family, friends, and neighbors. It didn't matter whether she cleaned, cooked, ran errands, or would sit with them as a mean of comfort. She was there for them whether they wanted it or not. She was often called "Momma Mary" by many of the young people.

Her life came in full circle when she got her first grandchild, Jevin Jeron Laron Fossie. She actually adored his very being, and he felt the same way about her too. After the death of her son, Jackie; Mary's mental and physical health declined rapidly and she was admitted to Metropolis Nursing Home. She refused to move to St. Louis or Kentucky with her few loved ones. Her preference was to stay in her beloved hometown of Metropolis where all her memories, friends, and loved ones were laid to rest. After some years there, many things occurred in life which she felt all alone and tired. She never wanted to be a burden to anyone, she was tired and ready to meet and greet all her loved ones, and friends in GLORY. She wanted to go Home.

Mary transited on Thursday, January 14, 2022 when she gave up her CROSS and received her CROWN.

Her Eternal life is Celebrated by her grandson Jevin, his mother, Jeanette, and adopted grandson, Carl; Josephine Sydnor's family, McCullough's family, Blackwell's family, Beulah Cannamore 's family, Russell's family, and the Metropolis friends.

The Fossie and Givens families would like to take this time to warmly thank Jalisa Langston for all her kindness, love and patience throughout "Momma Mary's" hospitalization. We also want to thank the Metropolis family/community for looking in on her from time to time and saying hello.
